QUEERDOS VIOLENCE

Spoken word theatre performance about violence within/against the Queer community.

English language performance without german translation.

We all have violence within us, whether pushed upon us with force, or soaked deep into our skin from childhood. Violence is an epidemic with no limits & no borders. It is cultural. It is learned. It manifests itself. It moves unstoppable, from battlefields to bedrooms.

Queerdos Violence is comprised of individually written monologues spliced into a narrative around the home and the relationship between environment and violence. The staging, as well as the personal nature of the texts, invite the audience into an intimate atmosphere within which to ask themselves the following questions: what are the violent experiences that structure our lives as queer people? How do our past experiences affect our present? How does one deal with structural violence? What is our individual reaction to violent experiences?

The 80 minutes performance is an intersectional investigation of the theme of violence and its repercussion in queer culture, touching on complex topics such as domestic abuse, racism, rape culture, and BDSM, among others. Within each monologue, the audience is pulled into a snapshot from the performers’ own lives and invited to empathize and reflect. In turns gentle, seductive, and aggressive, the performance leads the audience to a moment of catharsis.

QUEERDOS Mini – Workshop
Feb 14 um 18:00 – 21:00

QUEERDOS Mini – Workshop

The 3 hours performance-oriented workshop led by the two members of Berlin based performance ensemble, Queerdos, will consist of a mix of discussion and practical elements.

Drawing on queer theory’s questioning of identity, representation, and authenticity, the workshop involves going through an introspective personal route to unlock/practice effective performative strategies in queer spaces.

We will be approaching space and movement awareness and focus techniques which will enable us to better connect words with feelings and imagery. Also we will discover methods of connecting emotions to movement in a scenic context. Together we will aim at devising a mini Queerdos performance which will be presented the next day (Saturday 15/02)

The workshop will allow participants not only to get to know each other, but to get to know themselves better, exploring and expressing their hopes and fears as queers through acting, writing and movement.

The training session will be facilitated by queer director/performer Catalin Jugravu and dramaturg/theatre pedagogue Petros Mandalos.
