We all have violence within us, whether pushed upon us with force, or soaked deep into our skin from childhood. Violence is an epidemic with no limits & no borders. It is cultural. It is learned. It manifests itself. It moves unstoppable, from battlefields to bedrooms.
Queerdos Violence is comprised of individually written monologues spliced into a narrative around the home and the relationship between environment and violence. The staging, as well as the personal nature of the texts, invite the audience into an intimate atmosphere within which to ask themselves the following questions: what are the violent experiences that structure our lives as queer people? How do our past experiences affect our present? How does one deal with structural violence? What is our individual reaction to violent experiences?
The 80 minutes performance is an intersectional investigation of the theme of violence and its repercussion in queer culture, touching on complex topics such as domestic abuse, racism, rape culture, and BDSM, among others. Within each monologue, the audience is pulled into a snapshot from the performers’ own lives and invited to empathize and reflect. In turns gentle, seductive, and aggressive, the performance leads the audience to a moment of catharsis.
